Senior Attorney

Krause Estate Planning & Elder Law Center is looking for an experienced and dedicated estate planning attorney to join our team in Brookfield, WI. SUMMARY: This role involves designing estate plans, managing client relationships, supervising support staff, and ensuring legal accuracy and efficiency. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Take full ownership of the estate planning production pipeline, from designing estate plans to delivering final documents to clients. • Periodically review and update clients’ existing estate plans as needed. • Serve as the primary attorney on cases, guiding clients from initial handoff through case closure. • Understand client needs, analyze their situations, and develop strategic estate plans within their budgets. • Advise clients on estate planning, retirement plans, charitable giving, and insurance. • Collaborate with financial advisors and tax professionals to implement estate plans. • Answer client inquiries professionally and promptly, ensuring exceptional service. • Manage a dynamic caseload, staying ahead of deadlines and ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently. • Supervise paralegals and legal assistants, delegating tasks while maintaining responsibility for timely and professional completion. • Oversee probate and trust administration, making legal decisions, appearing in court when necessary, and preparing accordingly. • Track work time and report on case progress, ensuring transparency and accountability. • Improve firm processes by designing and implementing policies, procedures, templates, and checklists to enhance efficiency and profitability. • Engage in networking to strengthen client relationships and business development efforts. • Contribute to the firm's growth by writing articles for the monthly newsletter and maintaining community relationships. • Maintain continuing legal education (CLEs) and ensure law licensure remains up to date. REQUIRED QUALITIES, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE: • Minimum 3+ years of estate planning experience required, with a preference for experience in estate and trust administration and probate (3+ years). Experience with taxable estates is a plus. • Must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in Wisconsin or able to obtain licensure within 3 months. • Proficiency with Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required. Experience with MS Teams, Adobe Acrobat Pro, and Actionstep is preferred but not mandatory. • Notary Public: Must be a commissioned notary or able to obtain a commission within one month. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, especially in high-stress, emotional situations. • Meticulous attention to detail, common sense, and excellent writing skills. • Ability to convey confidence in person and on the phone. • Show empathy and put clients at ease during difficult times. • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to hold yourself and others accountable. • Business Development: A moderate book of portable business is a plus.
