The City of Orange Community and Library Services Department is looking for one new Assistant Recreation Services Coordinators to join our Evening and Weekend Park Patrol Program Team. - Is available to work a minimum of 35 hours per week, with a work schedule that varies month-to-month to meet program and facility needs during the evenings and weekends.
- Is proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Publisher).
- Has a valid California Driver License, auto insurance, and a good driving record. (Note: Submission of a driving record printout will be required at a later date as part of the screening process.)
- Has two or more years of experience in customer service, basic parks maintenance, park facility and recreational programs in a Recreation and/or Parks Department with another city or public agency.

When assigned to Evening & Weekend Park Patrol Program:
The Assistant Recreation Services Coordinator role is a lead position for the Evening/Weekend Program and the Park Patrol section in the Recreation Division of the Community Services Department. The incumbent will work weekday evenings and weekends. The work schedule will vary month-to-month. This position works unsupervised to lead and perform the duties assigned along side Parks and Facility staff who monitor all field, park facility and picnic pavilion permits, general public use for 23 city parks, perform basic administrative and field maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will posses at least two years of customer service, basic filed maintenance, facility and recreational program experience.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Completion of a two (2) year degree, or equivalent, from an accredited educational institution with major coursework in recreation or a related field is required. In addition, one (1) year of work experience equivalent to that of Recreation Services Activity Specialist at the City of Orange (which includes planning, implementation and oversight of recreation programming, activities, and/or services, and includes the coordination of the work of temporary/seasonal staff and volunteers) is required. Public sector experience is highly desirable. A combination of at least one (1) year of paid work experience providing customer service, and at least one (1) year of paid custodial and/or maintenance work experience is highly desirable.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid California Driver License, auto insurance, and a good driving record are required.
Supplemental Information
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and/or recreational facility setting and use standard office and/or recreation equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Must possess the physical stamina to lift and move tables and chairs, arrange facilities for community events and/or meetings. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb and walk on uneven surfaces to participate in recreational activities; and push and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKER: All employees of the City of Orange are designated by both State law and City ordinance to be "Disaster Service Workers." In the event of a declared emergency or any undeclared emergency or natural disaster that threatens the life, health and/or safety of the public, employees may be assigned to assist rescue and relief workers. Such assignments may be in locations, during hours and performing work significantly different from the employees' normal work assignments and may continue through the recovery phase of the emergency.
ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS: Employees may work in the field and are occasionally exposed to loud noise levels, cold and/or hot temperatures, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards. Incumbents may be exposed to blood and body fluids rendering First Aid and CPR are required to wear appropriate attire for the recreation activity to which they are assigned. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Benefits for Part-Time & Limited Duration Resolution (Benefited)
The City of Orange provides a generous array of benefits to employees in addition to maintaining competitive salaries. The following is a partial list of benefits that would be provided to a 40 hour full-time employee. Benefits for part-time employees are prorated based upon number of hours scheduled to work each week (i.e., 20, 25, 30, or 35 hours per week). However, 19-hour per week positions and "seasonal" positions are considered non-benefited.
Retirement Benefits. Retirement benefits are provided by the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS), including the City's contribution toward the Fourth Level Survivor's Benefit. Effective January 1, 2013, newly hired non-safety employees who are "New" CalPERS Members, as defined by the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 ("PEPRA"), will be enrolled in the CalPERS 2% at age 62 defined benefit plan with three year final compensation in accordance with Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA). New Members shall contribute half of normal cost of retirement as determined by CalPERS from their pensionable compensation, on a pre-tax basis, as set forth in California Government Code Section 7522.30. An employee who is a "Classic" Member of CalPERS or a current member of another California public retirement system who is hired by the City of Orange on or after January 1, 2013, will be enrolled in the CalPERS 2.7% @ age 55 benefit formula with one year final compensation. Employees contribute 8.00% of pension reportable salary on a pre-tax basis for this retirement benefit. Social Security & Medicare. Employees do not pay into Social Security, however, do contribute 1.45% of salary towards Medicare.
Cafeteria Benefits Plan. The City pays up to $1,960 per month (Family), which can be applied towards CalPERS medical, dental, vision, health care reimbursement, and/or dependent care reimbursement. Under certain criteria, employees may elect to opt out of the City's medical plan altogether and receive $400 per month.
Life Insurance. The City provides a term life insurance policy of $40,000.
Vacation. Employees earn 80 hours of vacation during the first four years of service, and an increasing accrual annually up to 200 hours per year after 25 years of service. Holidays. The City observes 11 paid 9 hour fixed holidays and provides 1 paid 9 hour floating holiday annually.
Sick Leave. Sick leave is accrued at a rate of 96 hours per year. A partial payment (up to 50%) for accumulated unused sick leave is available to City employees who retire from the City.
Other Benefits. Most employees work a "9/80" alternate work schedule with City Hall closures every other Friday. Long Term Disability, an Employee Assistance Program, Trip Reduction Program incentives, optional Deferred Compensation programs and Credit Union membership are a few of the additional benefits provided and/or available to employees.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT A Medical Examination, Police Records Check, and thorough Background Investigation are required of all prospective employees.
