The Opportunity A Field Service Engineer spends most of their time in the field or at a customer site where they troubleshoot equipment problems. The role requires specific training in the equipment maintained, including sound knowledge of the system, wiring, and sensing technology. We are looking for self‑starters who work independently, adhere to schedules, follow company processes, manage customer expectations, and can quickly repair or troubleshoot system problems in the field.
Business Line This role directly supports our Weather business. The team provides field maintenance to Instrument Landing Systems (ILS), Automated Weather Observations Systems (AWOS), Control Tower and NAVAIDS, and Road/Runway Weather Information Systems (RWIS).
What You Will Do
Manage a customer portfolio.
Provide routine maintenance checks on a schedule and within regulatory compliance (FAA, DOT, etc.).
Provide timely and detailed site reports to the central office following all customer visits.
Use company RM3 monitor tools to manage customer outages/uptime of systems.
Perform all on‑site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks.
Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine the proper solution.
Provide field calls for customer system outages.
Manage inventory of company‑owned spare parts.
Manage monthly expense reporting.
Maintain the company‑owned vehicle – routine maintenance, brake checks, oil changes as needed.
Follow all company procedures and protocols.
Qualifications We Look For
Five years of field service experience.
Ability to drive up to 8 hours per day.
Willingness to travel 75% of the time.
Ability to lift 50–70 pounds.
Capability to climb 30‑foot towers and use all safety climbing equipment.
Strong problem‑solving, troubleshooting, testing, repair, and service skills for technical equipment.
Experience documenting testing procedures and written work in FAA/DOT logbooks.
Knowledge of regulatory rules or requirements of job sites, including OSHA and EPA regulations.
Ability to work independently on site (most of the time the only person present).
Experience replacing/installing sensors upon failure.
Effective communication of field issues/concerns to customers and/or supervisors or central office.
Proficiency in using test equipment, hand‑held tools, and power tools as needed.
Proficiency in testing power source and voltage.
Hold a valid driver’s license.
Additional, Not Mandatory
ILS certification.
Proficiency in tower climbing.
Hold an FCC license.
