Warehouse Clerk

The Warehouse Clerk is responsible for supporting store management in maintaining and stocking store merchandise displays and shelves to promote sales and maximize profit. The warehouse clerk utilizes all forklifts and necessary equipment safely to maximize efficiency and maintain a secure and comfortable environment for customers to shop in.

Essential functions of the position include:

  • Accepting deliveries, inspecting the condition and quantity of goods received, and ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate records of inventory levels, performing regular stock counts, and updating inventory management systems.
  • Moving products from the warehouse to the store floor, ensuring shelves are adequately stocked and organized.
  • Preparing goods for shipment, including packing items securely and labeling packages accurately.
  • Keeping the warehouse clean, organized, and safe, including arranging products in designated areas and maintaining clear walkways.
  • Following all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly.
  • Operating warehouse equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and barcode scanners safely and efficiently.
  • Completing necessary paperwork, such as receiving reports, inventory logs, and damage reports, and communicating with management regarding inventory issues.
  • Monitoring for and reporting any theft, damage, or loss of inventory and taking steps to minimize shrinkage.
  • Occasionally assisting customers with locating products or answering inventory-related questions.
  • Assisting in maintaining functions of forklift lifts and other equipment as needed. Reporting damaged or malfunctioning equipment to store management.
  • Monitoring store conditions and reporting areas of concern to store management promptly.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Knowledge required includes:

  • Understanding of inventory systems and procedures.
  • Familiarity with standard warehouse practices, safety protocols, and equipment.
  • Awareness of grocery products and categories to handle and store items correctly.
  • Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and other relevant health and safety regulations.
  • Understanding procedures for receiving, inspecting, and stocking goods and preparing items for shipment.

Skills required include:

  • Precision in checking and recording inventory, ensuring accuracy in stock levels and documentation.
  • Proficiency in using inventory management software, barcode scanners, and other warehouse technologies.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for coordinating with other staff and managing documentation.

Abilities required include:

  • Ability to maintain organized storage areas and manage inventory efficiently.
  • Ability to identify and resolve issues related to inventory discrepancies or storage problems.
  • Efficiently managing time to complete tasks within deadlines, especially during busy periods.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle various tasks as needed.

Physical requirements include:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods, typically 8-hour shifts.
  • Lifting and carrying items up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Performing repetitive motions such as reaching, bending, stooping, squatting, and handling products.
  • Climbing ladders to perform warehouse tasks at elevated heights.
  • Maintaining clear communication with customers and team members.
  • Moving quickly and efficiently to assist customers and manage workload.
  • Maintaining physical stamina to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills, such as using tools or handling small objects.
  • Operating equipment to move or store products and displays.

Work conditions include:

  • Work hours vary, with availability required on weekends, evenings, and holidays; typically, 8-hour shifts for full-time employees.
  • Environment: Indoor, climate-controlled, with adequate lighting and ventilation.
  • Primary work stations: Work within the grocery store environments, which include various sections such as the sales floor, backrooms, and exterior areas.
  • Dress code: Professional and presentable attire as determined by store management, including a name tag, company-issued shirts, hats, jackets, or personal shirts that are black, burgundy, or blue, in good repair, and not faded.
  • Exposure: May be exposed to moving mechanical parts and cleaning chemicals.
  • Noise level: Usually low to moderate, with occasional loud periods from customers, store announcements, and equipment.
  • Interaction: Constant interaction with customers and team members in a fast-paced retail environment.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Over one year of grocery or warehouse clerk experience is preferred.
  • Complete the company's OSHA-accredited forklift training.
