Position Overview: The Tram/Shuttle Driver at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resort is responsible for safely and efficiently transporting resort employees via trams throughout the property and employee housing. This role requires customer service skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to create a positive and enjoyable experience for passengers. The Tram Driver may work on a part-time basis in the late afternoon/evening with the potential for transitioning to full-time based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Safe Operation: Operate trams in a safe and responsible manner, adhering to all traffic rules, resort policies, and state regulations. Prioritize passenger safety at all times.
  2. Passenger Assistance: Ensuring their comfort and safety. Provide any necessary information about the resort's amenities, services, and attractions.
  3. Route Familiarity: Become familiar with the resort's layout and various tram routes. Follow designated routes and schedules to ensure efficient transportation of guests to their destinations.
  4. Customer Service: Greet passengers with a friendly and welcoming demeanor. Provide exceptional customer service, answer questions, and address any concerns or inquiries in a professional manner.
  5. Communication: Maintain clear communication with passengers and resort staff. Announce upcoming stops, points of interest, and important announcements during the ride.
  6. Maintenance Checks: Conduct pre- and post-operational inspections of trams to ensure they are in proper working condition. Report any maintenance or safety issues to the appropriate personnel.
  7. Emergency Response: Remain calm and composed in the event of an emergency situation. Follow established protocols for handling emergencies, including medical incidents, accidents, or breakdowns.
  8. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of daily tram operations, including passenger counts, route deviations, and any incidents that occur during the shift.
  9. Professionalism: Present a neat and well-groomed appearance while wearing the designated uniform. Uphold the resort's standards of professionalism and hospitality.
  10. Flexibility: Be open to working a variety of shifts, including weekends, holidays, and evenings, as the operational needs of the resort dictate.
  11. Training and Compliance: Attend mandatory training sessions and meetings to stay updated on safety procedures, customer service standards, and operational guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a valid FLORIDA driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical
  • Previous experience as a tram driver, bus driver, or a similar role is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with passengers and colleagues.
  • Ability to operate vehicles safely and responsibly, even in busy or high-traffic areas.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and adapting to changing situations.
  • Physical capability to assist passengers with boarding and luggage, if necessary.
  • A positive attitude, patience, and a willingness to go the extra mile for guest satisfaction.
  • Familiarity with the local area and resort layout is advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting and Driving:
    • Must be able to sit for extended periods (up to 8 hours) while operating a tram or shuttle vehicle.
    • Ability to safely operate a tram or shuttle for long durations on paved and uneven surfaces.
  • Mobility and Maneuvering:
    • Must be able to enter and exit the tram or shuttle repeatedly throughout the shift.
    • Ability to walk and stand as needed, including assisting passengers with boarding and exiting.
  • Lifting and Handling:
    • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 lbs., such as luggage, guest belongings, or other equipment.
    • Ability to push, pull, and maneuver carts, luggage racks, or equipment weighing up to 200 lbs. occasionally.
  • Dexterity and Motor Skills:
    • Requires manual dexterity to operate vehicle controls, such as steering, brakes, and transmission levers.
    • Ability to adjust mirrors and operate communication devices like radios or GPS.
  • Vision Requirements:
    • Must have near and far vision to safely monitor the road, signage, and surroundings.
    • Depth perception is essential for navigating tight spaces and picking up passengers.
    • Color vision is required to interpret road signals, vehicle lights, and emergency indicators.
  • Hearing Requirements:
    • Must be able to hear traffic sounds, vehicle alarms, and passenger communication clearly.
    • Ability to use and respond to two-way radios or communication devices effectively.
  • Environmental Exposure:
    • Work tasks are performed primarily outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, and humidity.
    • May be exposed to noise from the tram, surrounding vehicles, and passenger activity.
  • Other Physical Demands:
    • Frequent bending, reaching, and stretching to assist passengers, load/unload items, or inspect the vehicle.
    • Must have sufficient stamina and physical condition to perform duties for the duration of the shift, including during peak service times.
    • Ability to maintain steady control of the vehicle in heavy traffic, crowded areas, and during challenging weather conditions.
